There are many great informational websites and forums out there. I previously belonged to a Great Dane group in Portland, however, I cancelled my membership when I found out this group is using member dues to support a rescue organization that is not supported by Dane Outreach, Willamette Valley Great Dane Rescue, and the Great Dane Club of America (GDCA). I also found myself not agreeing with information that was being posted by members trying to pass themselves of as experts. This was especially disturbing since most of the visitors to this website were first time Dane owners.
I strongly caution anyone visiting such sites and forums to take any information given with a grain of salt. Some sites and forums are populated by longtime Dane owners and breeders, however, many are not. Please be aware of those forums that have first time Dane owners spouting information as if they wrote the book on Danes. If someone boasts certain credentials, call them on it. If the person truly does have the credentials, they'll be glad to provide you the documention.
